H.I.I.T. is all the rage right now in the fitness world, and has been for some time. So what exactly is it and why is it so popular? For starters, H.I.I.T. stands for High-Intensity Interval Training. It is a form of training involving a short burst of activity at 100 percent intensity. This short burst is followed by doing a less intense activity or a short rest.
So now that we are all on the same page when it comes to what H.I.I.T. is, let’s talk about the benefits. Today’s world moves fast. Many of us have trouble finding time to sit and eat a meal, let alone spend hours at a gym. H.I.I.T. is an excellent solution to the fast paced life. It is a shorter work out, usually only an hour or less. H.I.I.T. makes it possible to get a great workout in such a short period of time because it is such high intensity. All you have to do is delegate 45 minutes of your day to a workout and you are set for the day. H.I.I.T. isn’t only amazing because it is such a short workout, it also has a lot of physical benefits. The structure of H.I.I.T. gets your body into the fat burning zone, while allowing it to hold onto lean muscle mass. Not only are you burning fat, but you are strengthening and building muscles.
The more muscle mass you have, the more calories your body burns after the workout is finished. So not only is it a short high intensity calorie burning workout, but then your body continues burning calories after you are done! H.I.I.T. also contributes to your overall heart health. The workout gets your heart rate up, and trains it to bring itself back down during the short rest period of less intense activity.
Here’s one of the best parts: it’s fun! Not that lifting weights and other forms of exercise aren’t fun, but H.I.I.T. is different all the time. It rarely feels like you are doing the same workout over again (muscle confusion to keep those muscles sharp!) and you are so busy during the 45 minutes that the workout just flies by. Here at GRIT BOX, fitness is fun. We have trainers that plan each workout so you will never do the same thing twice. We build community and relationships with partner exercises and encouragement. You leave every class feeling as though you really accomplished something – and you did!
