5 Tips to Prepare for Your First Grit Box Class

Not sure how to prepare for your first class at Grit Box? Don’t sweat it! Our workout is designed for everyone—whether you’re looking to tone and burn, looking to relieve some stress, or looking to try something new. You don’t need any kickboxing experience before coming to Grit Box!

Here are five tips to help you prepare and get the most out of your first workout.

1. Fuel Up

Get ready to punch, lift and HIIT your way through class. Our 45-minute class is a full-body workout. We’re talking upper body, lower body, core … muscles you didn’t even know you had.

Be prepared to sweat! And by prepared, we mean hydrating throughout the day and paying attention to what you’re putting into your body. Food is fuel!

2. Get Geared Up

Wearing the right clothing will help make you feel more comfortable. We recommend workout clothes that aren’t too restrictive and closed-toed gym shoes.

If you have your own boxing gloves, feel free to bring them. If not, we provide rental gloves and hand wraps for $5 (free for your first class).

3. Learn the Basics

Arrive 20 minutes early for your first class. Your coach will walk you through the workout before you even step into the studio so you’re ready to get after it.

We have a demo bag in the lobby that our coaches use to show new clients the 6 core strikes we throw during class. You don’t need to memorize these beforehand. Our goal is to get you familiar with these movements and teach you the correct technique. Just throw a punch if you get lost during class!

4. Pace Yourself

Our class is structured with breaks in between each round, but it’s important to listen to your body and take breaks when you need to. It’s just you and your bag—don’t focus on what everyone around you is doing.

5. Have Fun

We saved the best for last! Our class is designed so that you have a good time and get in a good sweat. Customized playlists and dynamic lights transform the studio and keep you hyped as you make your way through each round.
